  1. Although we have not had been in contact for a long time, I consider John a dear friend. We started as faculty in the I/O Psychology Program at University of Tennessee and spent many hours on the phone grousing about this and that. The calls usually began with John bellowing in a deep voice over the phone, BAAWB…. Our wives were not particularly happy I think with the length of the calls, but once you got started with John it was hard to stop. Our calls were good therapy for young faculty having to deal with the tenure game and academic politics. John was very generous, incredibly bright, and an amazing teacher. He also taught me how to fish. I’ll miss him and only wish we could have had one last phone call. My condolences to his family on this sad loss of a wonderful person.
